Hong Kong Pools – The Best Places to Swim in Hong Kong

With Hong Kong’s Covid-19 pandemic easing, swimming pools are reopening. But the city’s 38 government-owned facilities will remain closed for several more days as they undergo a full filtration and sterilization process, according to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). This is a necessary step to ensure the safety of swimmers and protect water quality, which had been compromised by vomiting and feces during the pandemic.

The LCSD said the pools will be open for public use from Thursday onwards, although some services may not resume immediately. Some will reopen when staffing allows, such as toddler pools and lifeguard services at 15 beaches. The department has also relaxed restrictions on restaurants, allowing them to seat up to eight people at tables and to serve dine-in meals until midnight. But food deliveries remain prohibited.

In the meantime, there are plenty of other places to swim in Hong Kong. Some have beautiful views, others are in trendy neighbourhoods, and some even come with a bar. Here are some of our favourites.

Kerry Hotel Hong Kong

The Kerry Hotel’s rooftop pool offers a different view of Victoria Harbour, this time from Hung Hom instead of Causeway Bay. The 25-metre pool is surrounded by tropical plants and sun loungers, making for a luxe afternoon with a great tan. After your swim, head to the popular terrace bar Red Sugar for a sundowner with free-flow tapas and drinks and a live musician.

If you’re a fitness fanatic, you can get unlimited access to the pool at Asaya for HK$1,080 a month, or you can buy up to 12 day passes at HK$250 each on weekdays and HK$350 on weekends and public holidays. The membership includes other benefits, like unlimited access to the gym and wellness classes.

Those who want to try their hand at swimming in a more urban setting should check out the Tai Wan Shan pool, which offers stunning views of Victoria Harbour. The eight-pool complex has separate lanes for lane swimming and a relaxing area where you can simply float around and enjoy the scenery.
