The Hong Kong Student Prize 2023, a national art competition for secondary school students, has launched today (September 16). Students need to be nominated by their teachers to take part. Students can submit up to three artworks online by the submission deadline. A panel of judges will select the shortlist of 20 artists to receive awards. The Judges Prize of HK$8,000 will be awarded to the student artist with the highest score from the judges. HK$20,000 will be awarded to the student artist’s school.

The eight winning teams in the inter-school competition of research projects on Hong Kong’s history and culture have received their prize money at a ceremony held today (September 25). Organised by the Hong Kong Museum of History, the 8th competition encourages students to learn about Hong Kong’s past by doing research outside classrooms and finding out how historical developments relate to society.

Prof. Fan Zhiyong, an awardee of the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, has been invited to attend the ceremony as an officiating guest. The prestigious prize was established in 2022 by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and title-sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited to recognise scientific researchers and research teams, including those based in higher education institutions of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, for their significant achievements in innovative exploration and for transforming their research outcomes to benefit humanity.

This year’s event saw the largest number of entries to date with a total of 40. A professional judging panel, comprising experts in engineering and product design, selected winners for each category and the Grand Award winner. The judges were impressed by the creativity, functionality, ergonomics and cost-performance of the entries.

In the 2024 Asian Media Awards in Singapore, the South China Morning Post’s infographics team won four prizes. Its report “Uncovering Hong Kong’s secret land grab” won gold in the newspaper infographics category, with a combination of maps, graphics, illustrations and photography to highlight how wealthy developers are illegally erecting buildings on their private property.

The HK Phil would like to express its sincere thanks to the HKSAR Government, our Principal Patron Swire Group, and music-lovers around the world for their support of the HK Phil in this special project. The HK Phil hopes that the box-set will enable more people to enjoy Wagner’s Ring Cycle, and share the joy of great music with others.

The HK Phil will also release its second album of recordings this year, which features an all-star line-up of local and international musicians performing the complete cycle of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in one evening. The full recording will be available on CD and digital download from November this year. Stay tuned for more information!
