A full reopening of public beaches and pools is unlikely this summer, according to Hong Kong’s leisure authorities. Only 40 percent of 600 seasonal lifeguards have reported for duty so far, and the government has struggled to hire enough.

A total of 25 works were shortlisted for this year’s Singapore History Prize by a panel of judges led by Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the NUS Asia Research Institute. He was joined by a five-member Jury Panel: Emeritus Professor John N Miksic of the NUS Department of Southeast Asian Studies; Tan Tai Yong, President of the NUS Faculty of Social Sciences; Peter A Coclanis, Director, Global Research Institute, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and economist Dr Lam San Ling. The shortlisted works were culled from a long list of 26 submissions made by local and international scholars. They were selected based on their historical accuracy, clarity of writing and literary merit.

The winner was announced by the Guest of Honour at the Awards ceremony on 18 December. He commended the shortlisted finalists for bringing the past to life in ways that were imaginative and captivating. He hoped that the work would help the public understand more about Singapore’s rich and diverse history, and make them proud of the nation they live in.

During the event, Mr Ng also thanked the sponsors, participants and members of the public for their support for the competition. He particularly thanked Nanyang Girls’ High School for its help in organising the submissions from its students, and Hwa Chong Institute for their assistance in obtaining entries from their secondary 1 and 2 students. In addition, he acknowledged the contributions of several individuals who donated their family genealogical records to the National Library Board and other organisations, including The Peoples’ Association, The SG 50 Celebration Fund, the Society in Jingdezhen and the Nanyang Girls’ High School Alumni.

While there is no failproof way to win a same game parlay, you can improve your chances of winning by using the right strategy.
