Summer in Hong Kong can be sweltering. It’s not unusual to get drenched in sweat as soon as you step out of your house. Rather than finding refuge in cosy cafes or shopping centres, why not splash around at some of the city’s best pools? Not only do they offer a refreshing way to beat the heat, some of them boast stunning views too.
We are spoiled with 44 public swimming pools throughout the city, so chances are there’s one not too far from your doorstep. Most are well-equipped with water slides, fountains and even splash buckets to keep kids entertained. And the best part is that they’re affordable!
Here are some of our favourites:
The swanky hotel pool
For a touch of luxury, swim your worries away at the JW Marriott’s outdoor heated pool. Located in the heart of Admiralty, the pool offers an unbeatable urban view of Hong Kong’s skyline. Guests can also re-fuel after their swim with a dip in the al fresco Fish Bar and Pool Lounge.
If you’re looking for a more intimate pool experience, head to the rooftop pool at W Hong Kong. The Wet pool facility is 211 metres above sea level, giving swimmers the chance to enjoy sweeping views of the city and harbour. The glistening water is especially beautiful during sunset and sunrise. Non-hotel guests can buy a weekday or everyday deluxe pass to enjoy the pool and Fit Gym facilities.
The funky hk pools
With its pirate ship with water cannons, the Hammer Hill Road swimming pool is one of the most popular spots in Hong Kong for families. The indoor and outdoor pools include teaching, diving, leisure and toddler pools, so everyone can find something to do.
Another great family-friendly pool is the Tai Po swimming pool, which features Hong Kong’s highest and longest water slides. It’s no wonder the place is packed on weekdays and weekends!
It’s no secret that a swimming pool boosts our energy levels and keeps us fit. But did you know it also reduces stress and depression? In fact, swimming just three times a week can improve your mood and boost your metabolism.
With all this in mind, we’re not surprised that more and more people are choosing to swim for exercise at a variety of hk pools. So grab your towel, slip on some flip-flops and hit the water!
